Gesture & etiquette

Accept with both hands, thumbs on top and fingers below. Bow at about 15 degrees while receiving. Pause to read the card visibly — this shows respect. In a meeting, arrange all received cards on the table in the order of seniority.

名刺 (meishi) exchange is a formal ritual — the card represents the person. Receive with both hands and a bow, read it carefully before setting it on the table in front of you. Never write on it, bend it, or put it in your pocket while the person is present.
