Stand close enough to be reassuring but leave personal space. Make steady eye contact and speak at a measured pace. A slight nod after their answer — before proceeding — signals you heard them.

A brief readiness check before a medical procedure respects the patient's sense of control. If they express hesitation, acknowledge it: 「そうですか。少しだけ深呼吸しましょうか」(I see. Shall we take a slow breath together?). Never proceed without a clear 'yes.'
