Gesture & etiquette

Stand slightly ahead of and beside the resident at the reception counter, not in front of them — keep them included in the interaction. Speak clearly to the receptionist. Have the appointment card or insurance documents ready. If the resident wishes to speak for themselves, step slightly back to allow them to do so while remaining close by.

When checking in a care resident at a medical reception, always refer to them respectfully using '-sama' (highly honorific, more formal than '-san'). The phrase 'oukagai shite orimasu' (we humbly attend/visit) uses the humble verb 'ukagau' — appropriate when you are the visiting party. Have the appointment confirmation slip or care summary document ready to present.
