Today there is a blood test. We'll take just a small amount from your arm. The discomfort is only for a brief moment.

Gesture & etiquette
Deliver the phrase calmly and matter-of-factly — avoid over-explaining which can increase anxiety. If they express fear, acknowledge it: 'Daijoubu, sugu owari masu kara, issho ni ite agemasu yo' (It's okay, it will be over quickly, and I'll stay right beside you). Hold their free hand lightly if they are willing during the procedure.
Preparing a senior for a blood test requires two elements: clear factual information (what will happen) and emotional reassurance (it will not hurt much). 'Honno isshun desu yo' (truly just a moment) normalizes the brief discomfort. Always explain where on the body the procedure will occur before touching — unexpected physical contact during medical procedures causes significant distress.
