Gesture & etiquette
Cup your ear or lean in slightly to signal it was a hearing issue, not a comprehension failure — this is less face-threatening for both parties. Apologetic body language (small bow, slightly raised eyebrows) softens the request and shows you are trying.
「おっしゃっていただけますか」uses 仰る (ossharu), the honorific for 言う — this is more polite than 「言っていただけますか」. A simpler N5 alternative: 「もう一度、ゆっくりお願いします。」(Once more, slowly please.) — effective when keigo feels heavy for the situation.
