Gesture & etiquette
Stand close enough to offer support but not touch unless requested. Extend an open hand for balance assistance. Speak clearly facing the senior. Once they're on the scale, look at the readout discreetly — do not announce the number unless asked.
Always announce a measurement before doing it — surprising a senior with a procedure feels disrespectful. 'Hakarasete itadakimasu' (humbly receive permission to measure) frames the act as a courtesy you're asking for, not something done to them. 'Yukkuri' (slowly) signals patience and prevents anxiety about footing.
