Gesture & etiquette
Show the thermometer first. Place at axilla apex (deepest part of armpit). Hold their arm gently against their side. Speak calmly during the wait—'今日は曇りですね' or similar low-stakes chat. Beep prompts removal, read aloud: 「36.5 度です。お変わりなしですね」.
Temperature measurement. 「お熱」 with お prefix is gentle even for the simple word 「熱」. Most facilities use axillary (armpit) electronic thermometers—5 minutes for traditional, 30 seconds for predictive types. Announce before placing. Hold their arm gently against side to ensure good contact. Record immediately in vitals chart.
