Gesture & etiquette
Sit at their side, hold their hand gently. Wipe finger with alcohol, let dry (wet alcohol stings). Use side of fingertip, not pad. Distract with light conversation during the prick. Apply small cotton ball with pressure. Report reading aloud and write in chart.
Blood glucose finger-stick. 「ちくっと」 (a small prick) is honest about the brief pain without alarming. Warn before pricking. Use side of fingertip (less painful than pad), wipe first drop, use second drop. Watch their face for sign of distress. Always announce reading and what it means: 「120 です、お変わりなしですね」.
