Written on quality white paper, black ink, vertical writing preferred. Use 「謹啓」 opening + 「敬具」 closing. White envelope, no decorative seals. Send by mail; do not deliver with gift in person (separate the communication).
Highest-formality hospital condolence letter opening. 「謹啓」 (kinkei, respectful greeting) is the most formal letter opener. 「~の段」 (regarding...) is N1 connector. 「驚き入りまして」 (am truly astonished) expresses sincere concern. 「ご快癒」 (full recovery) is more elevated than 「ご回復」. Conclude with 「敬具」 (keigu, respectful close).
