It depends on the size, but if it can be covered, it's fine. Could you please cover it with a bandage or similar?
Gesture & etiquette
Point generally to the area where the tattoo is (without revealing it if it's in a private area), or use hands to indicate a 'small' size.
Never enter an onsen or public bath with a visible tattoo without confirming permission. Be prepared to be denied entry or asked to cover it completely. Respect their decision regardless.
