Romaji: Sumimasen, kono taoru wa yubune no naka ni iretemo ii desu ka? Sore tomo atama no ue ni oku no ga manaa desu ka? / Reply Romaji: Taoru o yubune ni ireru no wa goenryo kudasai. Oyu no soto ni oku ka, atama no ue ni oite kudasai.

タオルを湯船に入れるのはご遠慮ください。お湯の外に置くか、頭の上に置いてください。
たおるをゆぶねにいれるのはごえんりょください。おゆのそとにおくか、あたまのうえにおいてください。
Please refrain from putting the towel in the bath water. Please place it outside the water or on your head.
Gesture & etiquette
Hold up the small towel and gesture towards the bath and then towards the head.
Never put the small towel (or any towel) into the main bath water in an onsen or public bath.
