Otoushi is a small appetizer served first, and it's like a seating charge.
Gesture & etiquette
Point to the 'otoushi' item on the menu if it's there, or to the small dish served.
In many izakayas, 'otoushi' is mandatory and cannot be declined. Do not argue if told it's compulsory.
