Gesture & etiquette
Crouch or sit at the senior's eye level. Maintain calm, unhurried eye contact. Rest your hand lightly on the armrest or nearby surface — not on the senior's body unless invited — to signal presence without intrusion.
Notice and name changes in appearance before asking directly — this shows attentiveness and makes the senior feel seen. Phrase it as an observation ('you look different'), not an accusation ('are you sick?'), to reduce any sense of alarm.
