Place the back of your hand lightly on their forehead to confirm. Make eye contact. Point to the bed or chair: 'Stay right here.' Then leave promptly but calmly, jogging only once out of sight.
Announcing your action before leaving ('I'll go get a nurse') prevents the senior from feeling abandoned. The instruction to 'stay still' prevents them from getting up, which could cause a fall. Return within 90 seconds or send another person so the senior is never left alone for long.
