Kneel or sit at eye level; adopt an open, non-alarming posture; allow silence and patience after asking — rushing a response can lead to inaccurate answers; document the exact location and nature of pain for accurate handover to medical staff.

Follow up with 'どのあたりですか？' (whereabouts?) and 'どんな痛みですか？' (what type of pain?) to get precise information for the medical team. Allow the senior plenty of time to respond — they may need a moment to locate and articulate the sensation. If verbal communication is difficult, ask them to point.
