Gesture & etiquette

Hold their hand if they reach for it. Maintain physical closeness and steady eye contact. Avoid looking repeatedly at the door or your phone — they will notice and feel abandoned even if you're monitoring for help.

During a medical emergency, the most powerful thing a caregiver can do is maintain calm presence. Speak slowly and repeat reassuring phrases if needed. 「そばにいますよ」is especially powerful — do not say it unless you truly intend to stay.
