If you notice them pulling their clothing tighter, hugging themselves, or looking pale, respond immediately without waiting for them to ask. Move swiftly but without alarming body language. When returning with the blanket, drape it gently over their shoulders or lap. Check back within 10-15 minutes to ensure they have warmed up.

Noticing physical discomfort before the resident fully articulates it is a hallmark of skilled caregiving in Japan. Offering a specific solution (a blanket) immediately rather than asking abstract questions like 'are you okay?' is both more culturally appropriate and more practically helpful. Always check on the resident again after providing the blanket.
